The weekend that almost wasn't....

Sometimes I get in moods. If you're a family member or a very close friend you know what I'm talking about. The mood where it's pretty hard to get me out of my comfortable bed with a movie. I was kind of in that type of mood on Friday. Friday's are my long days. And that's my own fault, I'd prefer to have two very long busy work days and three easy short days. But at the end of a Friday, I'm feeling pretty exhausted. So after 10 hours at work, two hours at the gym, and making dinner I was pretty much ready to call it for the weekend. The idea of my bed and numerous cheesy movies was sounding pretty good. So when Cecilia texted me about a movie at her apartment that sounded pretty good to me. I could stay in my sweatpants, and still feel semi-social.

I'm reading a book right now and there's a whole chapter on how we need other people. It's not good to be alone all the time. I think this is so true. I'm the type of person who doesn't always realize how much I need other people, and I enjoy having time to myself. And sometimes I just need a little push.

All the girls from school decided to go to Seoul on Saturday for some shopping. I'm really trying to cut back on my crazy spending habits, so I decided to opt out of the shopping trip. All the guys from school were going to the Daejeon volleyball game, so I decided to become one of the guys for the day and tag along with them. I'm SO glad I did! It was awesome! Going in we knew that if they won this game that was it, it was over, the season was finished and Daejeon would be the champs. Some of the guys came with brooms since they expected it to be a sweep, and we set off.

We got there pretty early, but already it looked like it was going to be packed to the rafters. We noticed Jenny was off talking to someone with a walkie talkie and dressed in a black suit. I laughed and wondered what she was up to. A few minutes she came back to the group and said, "me and four foreign teachers get to high-five the players as they come onto the court before the game!". So Andy, Paul, Jay and I were assigned this burdensome task, haha. It was actually pretty cool. A packed stadium, and now I can officially say I've been on TV. Granted, Korean television...but I'll take what I can get!

A little later in the game, as we were all cheering like mad-people it came to a point where it got quiet as a point was being video-reviewed. Andy stood up and started cheering at the top of his lungs and swinging his broom in the air and sat back down. A second later over the loud speakers someone came on and said something, and all I heard was "waygookin". Sunny leaned over and said "Andy! They are talking about you! They want you to stand up!". So Andy stood up and they started talking about how he was such a crazy good fan and they called him the "Broom cheerer". I'm pretty sure not a single Korean knew whey the guys had brooms. Later on Sunny found an article online with Andy's picture in it.

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention...THEY WON! I went to several games, and didn't see them lose once. pretty exciting stuff! Koreans really take their volleyball seriously. They got a ton of money and the MVP got $5,000 just for that game. Intense. It was pretty exciting to see them win though. The game with to 5 with the last game a 13-15 victory for Samsung.

After the game a bunch of us decided to go out for dinner. We went to this amazing restaurant where the staff was incredible and we got a million side dishes (honestly..there was not an empty space on the entire table..I should have taken a picture), and got free coffee and ice cream afterwards! Amazing!

Brendan was in town for the weekend (he went traveling for a month, and was making a stop over in Daejeon before heading back to Canada), so we had a "Second last-night" with him. We decided to walk over to Kune-dong to "Santa's". A bar/restaurant with pool tables, fooseball, etc. But apparently there was some weird comedy night so we ended up at another place called "Howl at the Moon". It was pretty low key, and it cleared out fairly early and our group was the only one left. At that point some of the guys decided to start an all-guys dance party, which turned into all of us dancing, Brendan playing piano, Paul on drums, and the rest of us dancing and taking turns at the microphone. The whole night just reminded me more of the ridiculous things that would happen with my friends back home. It was great. The night ended with Andrew finding a guitar and serenading us all.

Sunday was a more relaxing day. Church with Kristin and Jodi, Kristin and I wandered around Dunsan for a bit, did some grocery shopping, and then I settled into a lazy night of organizing and TV. Great way to end a jam-packed fun weekend. :)

When my alarm clock went off this morning I wanted to throw it out the window. I love letting my body sleep until it feels like it's had enough. I don't like alarm clocks. But I have bills to pay and work to do.
