Well okay....now I've been here more than a month, I've just been awful lately about updating my blog, and super busy! But who's keeping track right?
I can honestly say I'm starting to settle into a routine here, and Korea is starting to feel a little more like home. The first month has definitely had it's ups and downs, but I'm happy to say that it's mostly been ups. This past week was one with a bunch of ups and downs, but luckily it ended on an up. :)
This week was an interesting one at work. First of all, I had to write Kindergarten Reports. They were a lot more difficult than I was thinking they would be, especially since I haven't been teaching the kids for that long. They also took a very long time to write, and were boring. But after a few late nights with a lot of breaks to watch TV and clean (hasn't changed from my days of studying for exams haha...) I got them finished! We also got a new supervisor at work this week. Which all happened very fast (as does everything in Korea), but she seems very nice so that's a relief. I had a few classes this week that really took a toll on me, I need to be better at just leaving that stuff at school and not stressing out about it, but I haven't been able to do that yet. I'm sure it'll come, but I ended up having a de-stressing skype talk with my mom and sister, which was nice.
This WEEKEND has also had a few ups and downs. Friday night we went out to dinner for one of the girls last nights in Daejeon, and then met up with a bunch of other co-workers later on. It was a lot of fun, and I'm glad I'm getting to know my co-workers a little better. Saturday morning Kristin, Jodi, myself, and our co-worker Lisa met up to go to the beach! Little did we know that a trip that was supposed to take us 1 hour, would end up taking us 6. It was just a long day of wrong buses, missed buses, wrong stops, taxi's, walking, and waiting for buses. We ended up finally meeting up with Robyn at Daecheon Beach and spending a lovely 4.5 hours there, and then hopping on a train back to Daejeon. It was a lot faster, but still not the hour we thought it would be. We got home pretty late chilled at the GS for a bit to catch up with Robyn, I talked to Elise on skype and then off to bed.
Today was a nice relaxing way to end the weekend. Since the church we've been attending has an English service at 2, it means we get the morning to sleep in. After sleeping in, caffeinating ourselves, eating yummy tous la jour baked goods, and lying on Kristin's bed we headed to church. Last week a lot of the congregation was gone, so it was good to be there when some of them were back and we got the chance to meet a few more people! We ended up going out with a really cool South African couple after church for coffee. It was good to meet some more foreigners, and we're excited to go back to the church next week. After coffee we headed to Kristin's, made a delicious meal together and dropped Rob's off at the bus stop to head back to CheongJu.
Now I'm spending the evening painting my nails and watching a movie. A perfect end to a good weekend.
Korean Moments:
- Koreans stare at foreigners. All the time. On of these days I might snap and yell "yes. I'm white. now you can look away!".
- I kicked my first kid out of class recently.
- Everyone says its easy to learn to read Korean. I must not be very smart haha.
- I love the girl who works at the GS25 by my house. She's always so friendly, loves practicing her English, and tells me I look pretty :)
- I miss my mom's roast beef dinners.
- Place names here are TOO similar. We bought a ticket for daecheon, but somehow they thought we said something else and almost ended up going in the complete wrong direction!
