In University I continued watching volleyball and was able to watch the Redeemer Royals spike their way to a bronze medal in my final year. Since then I haven't been to a volleyball game, until Monday night.
The great thing about sports is that they are fun to watch in any language. You don't have to know Korean to know when your team gets a point, or to know when to cheer. Even though all the names are in Korean you can still cheer at the top of your lungs for their numbers. Sports transcend language barriers.
It was so much fun going to the volleyball game with the group I went with. Jenny and Sunny probably cheered JUST as loud as me. Korean fans in general are CRAZY! They cheer SO loud and have all sorts of songs and cheers. It's great! Jenny is probably the biggest fan I've ever seen. She knows all the players names, and brought the star player muffins. I found it hysterical watching her scream "GARBIIINNNNNNNN" (or Gavin for you non-Koreans), at the top of her lungs. We got to talk to him after the game and her face just lit up. It was also hilarious to see a little Korean woman next to a 6ft. 8 foreign volleyball player. Even Andy looked like a midget compared to this guy!
I'm a little sad I found out about the team so late in the season (playoffs start next week), but at least now we don't have to wait for exciting playoff games! Also, the Daejeon team clinched 3rd, so they're in the playoffs for sure! Can't wait to go back for some more fantastic volleyball (and at 7 bucks a game...you really can't beat it!) I'll keep ya'll updated on their progress! :)
Until next time friends...watch some Hockey for me.
xx Peace & Love xx
