Children's Day, Parent's Day and Jeju Island!

Our entire trip to Jeju was kind of like that movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". Seriously. But it was also a LOT of fun.

On Thursday the 5th (Children's day...what a great present!), we took a cab to the train to a bus to a plane to another bus and finally a walk to our hotel "Little France". When we got there it was beautiful and sunny and clear. But not for long.

Kristin and I have this horrible curse of bringing rain on every vacation we go on. Really. Not the whole time thank goodness, but there's always sure to be rain. Friday morning it was cloudy and there was a little mist in the air. Regardless, we headed off to explore the city we were staying in, Seogwipo. We walked through town and then over to Cheongjiyeon Falls. Koreans really love nature I've found, so despite the crappy weather it was still fairly busy. After the falls we made our way to this really cool looking walking bridge that leads to another island made of lava rock. While we were there is started to pour, so we headed to lunch for relief from the rain. After lunch we explored some markets and more of the city.

On the Saturday it looked like it was going to be another full day of rain. But, we had booked a day tour, so we powered on. The tour was actually really great. We went to a Volcanic crater, traditional village, fishing museum, maze park, lava tube caves, traditional markets, and then back to our hotel. We called it an early night so that we could get up early to make our flight...

Unfortunately, we were unaware that our flight time had changed to an EARLIER time! So when we tried to check in at 9:10 we were told boarding had already closed! Thankfully Korean airlines are AMAZING and we ALL got on another flight. But only after running through the airport (flashbacks to Thailand anyone?), losing a boarding pass, getting a new one, more running nearly knocking over a few Koreans, and then finding out our flight was delayed an hour! FINALLY, we made it back to the mainland and onto our booked KTX train. Back in Daejeon I took my parents out for some "Shabu Shabu" (Kind of a Korean-style fondu) for parents day. A pretty great long weekend!

We had one of the best vacations ever! Not just the location, seeing and experiencing new things but being able to share them with you made it one of the Greats!
